The Ather 450X is one of India’s most advanced electric scooters, with a slew of smart features and connectivity options. The scooter has a 7-inch touchscreen dashboard that runs Android OS and can be updated over the air (OTA) to improve its functionality and performance. Ather Energy recently released a new OTA update for the 450X that adds a new feature to the digital console. The newly introduced feature is called active regeneration.
How Exactly Does Active Regeneration Work?
Active regeneration is a process that converts the scooter’s kinetic energy into electrical energy and stores it in the battery, thereby increasing the scooter’s range and efficiency. When the Ather 450X was coasting or braking, the passive regeneration feature kicked in. The scooter can now regenerate energy when the throttle is released without applying the brakes, thanks to the new update.
The rider can enable or disable the new feature via the dashboard’s settings menu. When enabled, a green bar on the left side of the speedometer indicates the amount of energy being regenerated. The level of regeneration can also be adjusted by the rider using the toggle switch on the right handlebar. The higher the level, the more energy is regenerated and the greater the throttle resistance.
Depending on riding style and conditions, the active regeneration feature is expected to increase the range of the Ather 450X by up to 4%. The feature also reduces brake wear and tear because the rider can slow down the scooter by releasing the throttle rather than using the brakes. The feature is especially useful in city traffic with frequent stop-and-go situations.
The OTA update also includes minor bug fixes and dashboard enhancements such as smoother animations, faster boot time, and improved responsiveness. The update is being rolled out in batches and will be available to all Ather 450X owners in the coming days. By connecting the scooter to a Wi-Fi network or using a mobile hotspot, the update can be downloaded and installed.

The Ather 450X is one of India’s most popular electric scooters, offering a unique combination of performance, technology, and design. The scooter has a 6 kW electric motor with a maximum torque of 26 Nm and can go from 0 kmph to 40 kmph in 3.3 seconds. The electric two-wheeler has four riding modes that offer varying levels of power and range: Eco, Ride, Sport, and Warp. The scooter has an estimated range of 85 kilometres in Eco mode and 50 kilometres in Warp mode.

The Pro variant costs Rs. 1.46 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Plus variant costs Rs. 1.27 lakh (ex-showroom). The Ola S1 and S1 Pro are the prime rivals of Ather 450X.
