Kawasaki ZX-4R Launching In India Soon

Kawasaki frequently produces motorcycles that no one else would think to build; the supercharged H2 family is a prime example. The iconic brand Kawasaki recently unveiled a four-cylinder 400cc motorcycle named the ZX-4R after launching a four-cylinder 250cc bike dubbed the ZX25R a couple of years ago. We can now confirm that the ZX-4R will soon be available in India.

In the 1990s, the 250cc and 400cc four-cylinder classes were equally popular, but as harsher pollution regulations took effect and the 600cc and 1000cc engines gained popularity, they progressively fell out of favour. Although the firm never released its 250cc model to India, Kawasaki’s compact four cylinders are currently fully emissions compliant, and the 400 will finally arrive soon.

Kawasaki ZX-4R Highlights

A class-leading 399cc inline four-cylinder engine powers the ZX-4R. Kawasaki’s ZX-4R screams to over 15,000 rpm on its way to a maximum output of 80 horsepower. It is very close to the 87 horsepower of the India-spec Honda CBR650R. On the other hand, the Kawasaki’s 39Nm of torque is considerably less than the Honda’s 57.5Nm. However, it weighs a lot less than the Honda. The CBR650R weighs 211kg because of a much bigger engine, whereas the ZX-4R weighs 188kg.

The Kawasaki ZX-4R will be available in India solely in its base configuration. Considering the market of this segment, it is best for Kawasaki to offer the most affordable variant of the two-wheeler.

The front brakes are handled by twin 290mm discs with Nissin four-piston radial callipers, while the rear is handled by an axial master cylinder. The rear disc measures 220mm. The bike comes standard with dual-channel ABS. The tyre sizes (120/70-ZR17 front and 160/60-ZR17 rear) are comparable to those of the larger capacity but less powerful Ninja 650.

Sport, Road, Rain, and a programmable Rider mode that lets the rider change the traction control and power modes are the ZX-4R’s three pre-set riding modes. A bidirectional quick shifter is available as an optional extra on the standard variant. The bike receives a recognisable 4.3-inch colour TFT dash with Bluetooth compatibility that supports turn-by-turn navigation and notification alerts.

Kawasaki ZX-4R Price in India

The bike has already been teased on Kawasaki India’s social media, and the debut is planned in the coming days. The Kawasaki ZX-4R will be imported as a CBU and is likely to cost between Rs 7-8 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The Kawasaki ZX-4R is a pure racing DNA machine mainly for enthusiasts looking for a lightweight bike.
